For the purposes of this chapter, “hotel,” in addition to its ordinary and statutory meaning, means and includes any building or place maintained and conducted for the purpose of furnishing lodging, or lodging and food to permanent or transient guests, including motels; and “guest,” in addition to its ordinary meaning, means and includes anyone renting a lodging place, with or without a written contract or lease, either permanent or transient, in a hotel.
